One of the Most Expensive Estates in the Country for Sale in Mobile

According to local news affiliate WKRG, the Shoal Creek estate in Mobile at 7 Montagel Way will be sold to the highest bidder at the end of October. Its owner, Larry House, has reportedly invested about $35 million into the home.

House designed the home in the 1990s; it boasts a distinct European flair.

“His original conception was to have it like a European castle. He loved all the old castles in Italy and France,” said Pam Ausley of Remax Southern Homes. “He spent four years planning and building it. He brought in artisans from Europe to do the stucco work and the painting.”

About 65% of home buyers prefer either two or two-and-a-half bathrooms, but the Shoal Creek estate’s eventual owner will have many more than that. The 55,000-square-foot mansion features a whopping 22 bathrooms and 15 bedrooms.

In addition to the plethora of rooms, the estate also has a 25-seat movie theater complete with its own box office, as well as an indoor and outdoor horse arena with acres of rolling pastures.

The home does not have a reserve price for bidding, but most Alabamians looking for a new house can rule out the mansion in their real estate search.

According to AL.com, the Alabama metro market’s median new home sales price is $246,815, which probably isn’t even enough to purchase the 3,000-square-foot guest house behind this particular estate.

Viewings for the mansion will be available by appointment on Saturdays and Sundays between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. until the auction takes place on Oct. 31.
